Bangladesh should set up a farewell culture for senior cricketers- Shakib, Tamim, Mahmudullah, Mushfiqur- so that juniors have the faith that they can leave the game with their head held high, feels former national skipper Mashrafee bin Mortaza.
In the recent past Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim retired from T20’s format while Mahmudullah announced his Test retirement and now only Shakib plays across format from the senior four cricketers.
“There should be a culture (that players having a farewell game at home) and we should set it up for the players we have now like Shakib, Tamim, Mushfiq and Riyad(Mahmudullah) because whether anyone believes or not they are legend in Bangladesh and there should be no doubt about it,” Mashrafee told reporters at Sylhet on Thursday.
“Bangladeshi people should have the chance to give them farewell from the field and they can leave the game with respect. They have given a lot for this game and for a long time and they sacrificed a lot. People always count how much money they have earned but no one knows about their day in and day out hard work and sacrifices. They should have that respect,” he said.
“Those who are young or middle aged can have the faith (seeing that these seniors are getting farewell) and feel that even they can leave the game with due respect in this country,” he said.
