Bangladesh women's national team fell short of their bid to qualify for the cricket event in the Commonwealth Games 2022 after losing to Sri Lanka by 22 runs in Kuala Lumpur Monday.
Champions Sri Lanka advanced to the Birmingham CWG as the only team from the five-nation T20I qualifiers, and will join hosts England and the top six ranked sides in the main event, scheduled for July-August.
Both Bangladesh and Sri Lanka had won their first three group games but Monday's loss meant the former finished in second with six points, two behind the latter.
Batting first, the Lankans rode on captain and opener Chamari Athapaththu's 28-ball 48 to post 136/6 in their 20 overs.

Nahida Akter took two wickets while Salma Khatun, Suraiya Azmin and Rumana Ahmed picked up one each.
Chasing 137, the women in red and green lost wicketkeeper-opener Shamima Sultana (six) early before in-form Murshida Khatun (36 off 36) and Fargana Hoque (33 off 39) steadied the rocking ship.
Player of the match against Scotland, Murshida and Fargana added 50 for the second wicket before the former was trapped in front by Athapaththu.
Fargana and skipper Nigar Sultana Joty (20 off 21) then tried to up the tempo but fell short eventually as they were restricted to 114/5.
Athapaththu, who ended up with 3/17 from her quota of four overs, was adjudged player of the match for her all-round performance.
Bangladesh women will now put behind the CWG disappointment and begin preparations for the 2022 ODI World Cup in New Zealand in March-April where they will be making their debut appearance in 12 editions.
Bangladesh will get more than a month's time for preparations before taking on South Africa in their tournament opener in Dunedin on March 5.
The world event was pushed back by a year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
