Bangladesh received a reality check during their opening warm-up match of the ICC T20 World Cup as they suffered a crushing 62-run defeat to Afghanistan at Allan Border Field in Brisbane on Monday.

The Tigers, who came to Australia having lost all their tri-nation T20I series matches in New Zealand, failed to showcase any fight against the South Asian country and were also unable to boost their confidence through this match ahead of the big event.

Chasing a target of 161 runs, Bangladesh were left clueless by Afghanistan bowlers as they were reduced to 28-4 after the end of the power-play.

Najmul Hossain Shanto (12), Soumya Sarkar (one), skipper Shakib Al Hasan (one) and Afif Hossain (0) had no answer to Afghanistan bowlers as they departed within the power-play that all but ended the game for the Tigers.

Bangladesh number eight Mosaddek Hossain top scored with 29 off 22 balls but it was effective in chasing such a decent total as they had to satisfy with a total of 98-9 in their stipulated overs.

Apart from Mosaddek, Mehidy Hasan Miraz made 16 off 31 balls while Nurul Hasan Sohan scored 13 runs.

Fazalhaq Farooqi was the most successful bowler for Afghanistan as he claimed 3-9 while Fareed Ahmed took two wickets.

Earlier, Ibrahim Zadran and skipper Nabi made 46 off 39 balls and 41 off 17 balls not out respectively as Afghanistan posted 160-7 in their 20 overs after they elected to bat first against Bangladesh.

For Bangladesh, pacer Taskin Ahmed claimed 3-30 while pacer Hasan Mahmud and left-arm spinner Shakib took two wickets each.

Shakib was expensive with the ball as he conceded 46 runs in his four overs despite getting two wickets of Rahmanullah Gurbaz (27) and Usman Ghani (seven).

Bangladesh will take on South Africa in their last practice game on October 19 at the same venue.

The Tigers will begin their T20 World Cup campaign against Group A runners-up on October 24 in Hobart while they will face South Africa and Group B champions on October 27 and 30 respectively in Sydney and Brisbane.

Bangladesh will play their next match against India on November 2 in Adelaide while they will face Pakistan in their last Super 12 match at the same venue on November 6.
