Bangladesh skipper Nigar Sultana Joty on Saturday dedicated their maiden ODI win over South Africa to the martyrs and the freedom fighters of the liberation war.

“Today is our Victory Day. So I want to dedicate the win to the liberation war martyrs and freedom fighters,” Nigar said after the match.

“It was a good toss to lose. I would also choose to field first. We have been working so hard for a long time. Everyone has the belief and the team management has also worked a lot.

“We were expecting a good result. When it comes true, it’s really a great feeling,” she said, adding that the next two matches are also important for them as they don’t want to play World Cup qualifiers.

“These two points were important. The upcoming two matches are also important for both teams as none of us want to play the qualifiers,” she added

The Tigresses registered their first win over South Africa on foreign soil when they outplayed the hosts by 131 runs in the series opener at the Buffalo Park in East London to go 1-0 up in the series.

Bangladesh will now face the hosts in the second match in Potchefstroom on Wednesday.
