Bangladesh ODI’s skipper Tamim Iqbal urged everyone to be patient with new Test skipper Shakib al Hasan as he feels it will take time for them to be a good Test team.

The second group of Bangladesh Test squad will leave Dhaka today to take part in the upcoming two- match Test series against West Indies while three match ODI's and T20’s are scheduled after the longer format assignment.

Bangladesh Cricket Board recently re-appointed Shakib al Hasan as their Test captain after Mominul Haque decided to step down in order to concentrate on his batting.

Shakib has had two previous stints as Test captain, during which the team won three and lost 11 in 14 fixtures. He was first appointed Test skipper in 2009 when Mashrafe Mortaza was injured in West Indies. He was then handed the reigns in 2017, replacing Mushfiqur Rahim.

‘’I played under his captaincy twice because he was captain on two occasions, very early before 2011 and last time when he did (captaincy) and it (captaincy) is not a rocket science. We all know that he had a very good cricketing brain and I am sure captaining the Test team is not easy even though not many result come in our favour in this format,’’ Tamim told reporters during a private function at Dhaka on Sunday.

‘’But as I always said that when I was the captain I said you need to give me a lot of time and the same goes to Shakib. You need to give him lot of time and you cannot be impatient because this is one format that we are not very strong in. With his leadership planning and everything along with support from all of us maybe in two years three years we will become a good Test team,’’ he said adding that he is well aware.
