Bangladesh new appointed batting consultant Jamie Siddons praised Afif Hossain and Mehedi Hasan for their effort that helped them to seize victory from the jaws of defeat in the first ODI against Afghanistan on Wednesday.

“Last night was our first game I had one training session with the national team and then we played our first game last night obviously we got over the line with a win that was quite easy in the end but quite hard at the start we lost six for 40 to kick us off, which is not good for the batting coach but guys by the name of Miraz and Afif, two young boys in the team had 160 (174) runs partnership and got us over the line with still 10-15 balls to spare,” Siddons said in a video on his Facebook page Thursday.

“So an amazing win to start our series. Hopefully, we can have an easier one tomorrow and some are great talent here,’’ he said.

‘’I love the way those boys played last night and I’m sure there’s going to be many more of those innings from the young players and the senior players will definitely step up. There are stars in Bangladesh, there are stars in international cricket like Shakib [al Hasan], Tamim [Iqbal], Mushfiq [Rahim], Riyad [Mahmudullah] will all step up at some time in this series. Hopefully, that’s tomorrow” he said.

Afif Hossain and Mehidy Hasan shared a record 174-run seventh-wicket stand as Bangladesh recovered from a top-order collapse to beat Afghanistan by four wickets in the first one-day international of a three-match series in Chattogram on Wednesday.

Afif hit an unbeaten 93 off 115 balls while Mehidy added 81 not out, helping Bangladesh reach 219-6 in 48.5 overs, after Afghanistan left-arm pace bowler Fazalhaq Farooqi's opening-spell burst reduced the hosts to 18-4 inside five overs.
