The Bangladesh Cricket Board said on Saturday that controversial super star Shakib al Hasan is a national property and they vows to protect him.

Shakib hogged the spotlight once again as he went Dubai alongside some other celebrities for the inauguration of Arav Jewellers, owned by Arav Khan, on Wednesday.

Rabiul Islam, alias Arav Khan, of Gopalganj's Kotalipara upazila, is a fugitive accused in the murder of a police official.

Mohammad Harun Or Rashid, chief of the Detective Branch of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said that they had informed Shakib and other celebrities in attendance of Arav's criminal record, but that did not deter them from fulfilling his business commitments.

Shakib joined national camp on Friday and struck 93 runs in the three-match ODI’s series opener against Ireland to answer their critics with his performance though it still looks not good enough to avoid embarrassment.

BCB cricket operation chairman Jalal Yunus told reporters at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Saturday that they will talk with Shakib in this regard after the Ireland series but insisted too much talk would only put an impact on his performance.

“Shakib is not only BCB’s asset but also a national asset and so it is our duty to look after him,” Jalal told reporters on Saturday.

“We know nothing (about Shakib’s Dubai tour). My cricket operation doesn't know this matter, but generally he was on a vacation during this break. As there was a break between the two series, so he was on a kind of vacation,” he said.

“We only knew that he had traveled and would join the team on the 17th. We only knew it, but we had no idea where he went, what he did, who was with him or any commercial involvement or not. Firstly we get to know the details later and secondly, as I said, if anything like it happens, we will definitely look at it. But we don't want to talk about these issues during the series,” he said.

“Definitely we think that Shakib is a very sensible boy. He has knowledge about everything like where and what should do or not to do. I think as I was saying we still don’t know why it happened, how it happened and how it got involved.  Because we had not talked with him. The series started just after a day and we didn’t have enough time. At the same time the board president is also out of the country for the ICC meeting. CEO is also out of the country. After their arrival, we will first discuss among ourselves then we will decide how to do it. And another thing is, we have a committee here, the disciplinary committee. If the committee thinks they should investigate it further, they will do it. I think I need to wait a bit. Better not to talk about these during this series,” he said.

“From the cricket operations we will see if there is any violation in the contract or not or anything has been breached or not. If there is any clash between commercial things and the board's contract. If there is anything found like it, we will refer it to the disciplinary committee. That's why I said that without knowing anything or without any investigation, we don't want to make any comment about it,” he said.

Shakib became the second player of the country to reach 7000 ODI’s runs after Tamim Iqbal when he scored 24 runs in the opening ODI’s against Ireland and after reaching that feat he became the third player in ODI’s history to score 7000 ODI’s runs and pick 300 wickets.
