Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is all set to leave the country for England on Sunday night to undergo an eye check-up after his eye problem recurred.
Shakib, who will feature for Rangpur Riders in the forthcoming Bangladesh Premier League, the country’s lone franchise-based T20 tournament, earlier on Sunday was seen batting in the nets wearing power spectacles.
Shakib was taken to an eye specialist twice during the ICC World Cup in India last year while he also visited an ophthalmologist in the USA later in that year.
It is understood that his eye problem recurred which forced him to see an eye specialist in Dhaka.
Ishtiaque Sadeque, the chief executive officer of Rangpur, confirmed the development while adding that they are not losing their sleep over it as they are expecting him to be available before the start of the cash-rich tournament, scheduled from 19 January.
“Shakib is going to England for an eye check-up and we are expecting him to be available for the BPL (from the beginning),” said Ishtiaque on Sunday.
Rangpur will start their BPL campaign when they take on Fortune Barisal at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on 20 January.
