Bangladesh pace bowler Rubel Hossain retired from Test cricket on Monday.

“Assalamalaikum. Today I want to inform you that after submitting a letter to BCB I have decided to retire from Test cricket,” Rubel stated in his post.

“The longer version cricket plays a big part behind strengthening the pipeline of Bangladesh national team. I feel that if young pacers get chance here the pipeline will be strengthened. To provide chances to youngster I have decided to retire from red-ball cricket,” he said.

“I have played 27 Test for my country and it is a big achievement for me. I am grateful to them who were beside me during my journey in red ball cricket. I hope to get your support in the coming days as well. I have retired from Test cricket but I feel I still have something to give to the nation in ODI’s and T20’s and that is the reason I will continue to play DPL and BPL( domestic white-ball tournament),” he added. Rubel made the announcement through his official Facebook page.

Rubel took 36 wickets at an economy of 3.92 in 27 Test matches during his 12 year long Test career.

Rubel bagged 97 wickets in his 60-match first-class cricket career, at an economy of 3.86.
