Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan took a swipe at head coach Russell Domingo for demoting Mushfiqur Rahim at number eight against Oman.

Nazmul, who showed his displeasure after the opening game with the approach and strategy of the team management and had a hand in bringing back Naim, said shuffling in the batting order, was not necessary after Tigers were rescued by Shakib and Naim.

Bating first, Mohammad Naim, who replaced Soumya Sarkar from the last match, announced his arrival in the competition with 64 off 50 balls and Shakib, who was also named the player of the match, played a timely knock 42 off 29 balls to take the Tigers to 153.

Naim and Shakib added 80 runs that helped the Tigers’ repair the early damage but the stand ended when Shakib paid the price for his casual running and got run-out courtesy a direct hit from Aqib Ilyas.

Nurul Hasan and Afif Hossain also got promoted up the order but they couldn’t grab the opportunity as they departed for three and two respectively.

Mahmudullah (17) and Mushfiqur Rahim (six) tried to score some swift runs but couldn’t really get going.

‘’I am not sure why Naim was dropped in the opening game as we have prepared him and it must have given a wrong message to him,’’ Nazmul was quoted in Ekattor TV.

‘’I don’t think demoting Mushfiqur was necessary and there is no need to such experiment because we did not experiment in the series prior to this tournament,’’ he said.

‘’I am not sure why it happened,’’ he added.
