Bangladesh’s Mushfiqur Rahim will be fulfilling the duty of keeping wickets in the upcoming Asia Cup, said officials on Tuesday.
A member of the team management confirmed the development to Daily Cricket adding that they have already informed the matter to him.
‘’Yes, Mushfiqur will be keeping wickets in the Asia Cup and he is aware about it,’’ said the official. Mushfiqur, who is making a return to the national T20’s set-up since playing his last game against Afghanistan during the tri-series at home involving Zimbabwe and Afghanistan in March 2022, did not keep wickets in his last T20’s game as Liton fulfilled the duty.
Nurul Hasan, who is included in the 17-member squad though there is doubt over his availability considering he had an operation in his finger following the injury against Zimbabwe in the second T20’s that eventually ruled him out of the tour in the shortest format, always was preferred overs others as first choice wicket-keeper in the shortest format since being included in the T20’s.
Bangladesh opted to keep wickets with Anamul Haque in the last T20’s against Zimbabwe after both Liton and Nurul was ruled out. Mushfiqur was rested from the T20’s as team management wanted to see the strength of their bench.
The return of Mushfiqur in the T20’s raised questions whether Tigers will stick with Anamul or not in the Asia Cup as wicket-keeper as Liton is unavailable while Nurul is doubtful before team management opted to clear the air with none other than Mushfiqur, who seems to be more than happy to put on the wicket-keeping gloves.
