Bangladesh newly appointed T20 skipper Nurul Hasan during an exclusive interview with Daily Cricket insisted that neither he is too worried about captaincy nor he is thinking about result as he is more concerned to make sure that his team mates play fearless brand of cricket and develop a healthy team culture.
Here are the excerpts:
You are just appointed for Zimbabwe T20’s. How far can you plan as a leader with this state of affair?
To be honest I am not looking too far ahead (as far as captaincy is concerned) and I am not too worried about it. For me what is important is my process and I want to do the hard work with honesty. Because as a player whether I am playing in domestic cricket or international matches I want to make sure that I deliver what the team wants from me. I am not saying that I am delivering it all the time but I can assure you that I give hundred percent as far as trying is concerned. As a captain I have to think about the team and I want to do that properly and want to create an atmosphere so that we can play as a team. When one will be happy after seeing others performing and enjoying I feel that is how team culture grows. I think this is very important to develop this culture because than result will ultimately come. I think skill-wise we are not very different from others teams but what I feel is that mentally-wise we have to match with others because that will be helpful for the whole team.
You led in domestic cricket and now you will be leading in international cricket? What kind of change are you expecting and what brand of cricket are you trying to play?
I don’t there is a big difference in leading side as far as domestic and international cricket is concerned considering the fact in both place the major goal is to play like a unit and I would be looking forward to make sure that we can play like a team.
Look I accept that we are behind in Test and T20’s compared to ODI’s but what I feel is that we should play fearless cricket in T20’s. If I tell about myself I can say that whenever I am having fear I am always on the back foot and so it is important we play fearless cricket.
You are willing to back them if they fail trying to play fearless cricket?
Yes certainly (backing up so that they can play freely and does not fear of losing their place if they play aggressive brand of cricket) is very important and for every cricketer. Look every individual is different and play differently and they have something that comes naturally to them and it is not a fact that a lot of things will change in this series. You were saying about Emon and I know he plays one type of cricket while Bijoy plays another type of cricket and so does Liton and what I feel is that it important one should carry with his own type of cricket. I am not thinking too much about the result rather what I feel is that the process is very important. To be honest what will happen or what kind of result we are going to achieve does not matter a lot to me because there is no point losing your sleep thinking about the future.
Are you confident as a leader and what is your aim as T20 captain?
I am certainly confident because you can play fearless cricket when you are confident. I think every player must have the self belief as that is extremely important to perform. Look there is win and loss in cricket and every team wants to win but what I feel is that ultimately there is no point thinking too much about the result. Rather we should be focused on maintaining the process and if we can give our hundred percent results will automatically come so I am not thinking too much regarding what kind of result we will achieve.
