Former national pacer Shohidul Islam is all set to make a return to competitive cricket after serving his suspension as he will represent Agrani Bank Cricket Club in the upcoming edition of Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League.
Shohidul and 70 other cricketers changed their clubs on the first day of the DPL players’ transfer event held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Thursday.
The 28-year-old pacer, who represented Bangladesh in one T20I, was earlier handed a 10-month suspension from all cricket-related activities by the International Cricket Council on July 14 last year after he was found guilty of breaching the ICC Anti-Doping Code.
The suspension was backdated to May 28, 2022 and he will be eligible to return to cricket on March 28. Thus he is set to miss the opening few round matches of his new team.
Shohidul played for Abahani Limited in the last edition of DPL. The upcoming 2022-23 edition of DPL will get underway on March 15.
Among the notable transfers on the first day, pacer Taskin Ahmed, who played for Mohammedan Sporting Club in the previous edition, will represent Abahani Limited in the upcoming season.
Taskin will get Anamul Haque Bijoy in the same dressing room as the batsman has left Prime Bank Cricket Club to join Abahani Limited.
Towhid Hridoy joined reigning champions Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited from Abahani Limited while Imrul Kayes joined Mohammedan from Sheikh Jamal.
The second and last day of the players’ transfer will be held on Saturday.
