The Bangladesh Cricket Board on Wednesday signed an agreement with international consultant firm Populous Pte. Ltd. for their dream project of the Sheikh Hasina Cricket Stadium in Purbachal, Dhaka.
The BCB Chief Executive Officer Nizamuddin Chowdhury and Populous Pte. Ltd. Director Andrew Federick James signed the contract at a city hotel in the capital on Wednesday. Nizamuddin informed that the whole project has three parts – the first phase is for six months for drawing and designing, the second phase is for 30 months for construction and the final phase is for 12 months for checking.
The BCB CEO was also hopeful to build the stadium with their own funds and claimed that the capacity of the stadium will be around 50,000.
Before the contract signing, Populous Director Andrew delivered a presentation on his company and the new project Sheikh Hasina Cricket Stadium.
Andrew claimed that they have successfully completed their recent projects such as Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, Yankee Stadium in New York as well as have the experience of working on mega projects such as Emirates Stadium, The O2, Wembley Stadium, Lord’s, MCG and Narendra Modi Stadium, etc.
“Each of the projects is unique in its own way. We were told to design a stadium in the shape of a boat. I think when it is built, it will be a very attention-grabbing stadium,” Andrew said.
